This native born New Yorker was able to establish a name for not only himself, but a brand that’s known universally. Even though he came from troubled parents, Marc Jacobs didn’t let anything hold him back. His education includes the High School of Art and Design and Parsons School of Design. He sold his first line of sweaters while attending Parsons. He formed Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. in the 1980s. The first Marc Jacobs labeled collection was designed in 1986. The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis Award for “New Fashion Talent” was awarded to Jacobs in 1987 and he was the youngest designer to ever receive it. He also received The Women’s Designer of the Year Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1992. By then, he was vice president of the Perry Ellis design unit. The Marc Jacobs International Company, L.P. was launched in 1993. The following year, Jacobs produced his first line of menswear. Louis Vuitton appointed Marc Jacobs as their creative director in 1997 and he remained in that position until 2013. Marc by Marc Jacobs was introduced in 2001. He started a fragrance line in 2006 and a film called Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton was made in 2007. Diet Coke named Marc Jacobs as their creative director in 2013. He was ranked 14th on the 2012 Out magazine’s list of the “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America.”He has a cancer campaign titled “Protect the Skin You’re In” which features celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Victoria Beckham, Kate Upton and Heidi Klum. Jacobs has over 285 stores worldwide. Marc Jacobs also on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world’s “2010 Time 100” and throughout all controversies, Jacobs will continue making a name for himself and his brands in the fashion Industry.
